Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah placed under house arrest

Amid the curfew imposed in Kashmir, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti are placed under house arrest, reported state media.

Omar Abdullah wrote about the house arrest on twitter. “I believe I’m being placed under house arrest from midnight tonight & the process has already started for other mainstream leaders.” Omar further asserted that they don’t know what is in store for them but he is firm believer that what ever the God has planned it is always for the better.

Reacting to the house arrest, Mehbooba called it an ironic move. “How ironic that elected representatives like us who fought for peace are under house arrest. The world watches as people & their voices are being muzzled in J&K. The same Kashmir that chose a secular democratic India is facing oppression of unimaginable magnitude.”

The state media reports say that Section 144 CrP has come into order in Srinagar district from midnight 12 a.m. Mobile internet and cable network suspended in the valley.
