An Indian Nepali man in India’s Varanasi forcibly tonsured, a video of the incident is sparking anger among citizens. The Nepali man was forced to chant anti-KP Oli slogans and ‘Jai Shri Ram’. According to news reports, a Varanasi-based group allegedly shaved the head of a Nepali citizen, further, from the video, it is seen that ‘Jai Shri Raam’ is written on the scalp of the person.
Santosh Pandey, an accused in the case has reportedly been arrested. Another report published by The Hindu says that the viral video was recorded and shared on Facebook by one Arun Pathak, the convenor of Varanasi-based fringe group Vishwa Hindu Sena.
An FIR against Arun Pathak has been by Varanasi Police under Sections 505(2) and 295 of the IPC and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act. The Director General of Uttar Pradesh Police has ordered to conduct an inquiry into the incident.
Following an inquiry into the incident, Varanasi Police confirmed that the man in the video is an Indian who was born in Varanasi. Police also tweeted that his family members are also working in government services.
